There were many villages and towns built along the coast, one of them was Hercolaneum. The Romans used to spend summers there, and it was the place for rich people. When Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D., the ash and stones covered the town. However, some rich villas and houses survived to be admired nowadays. The wealth and power of ancient Romans, their love to art, their architecture are still extremely impressive. There's also virtual museum (MAV) where you will see the treasures found in Ercolano, and you can experience virtual eruption. Don't worry – it's absolutely safe!
